Tracking the evolution of the Human Development Index in African countries – including inequality-adjusted, augmented and gender development metrics – and linking them to income.
Human development goes beyond GDP. It captures how people live – their health, education and living standards – and how inequality and gender gaps shape these outcomes across African countries.
This dashboard brings together multiple UNDP and research indicators: the core Human Development Index (HDI), an inequality-adjusted HDI, an augmented HDI that includes planetary pressures, and the Gender Development Index (GDI). Combined with income levels, it helps identify who is being left behind in the transition.
Indicators: HDI, Inequality-adjusted HDI, Augmented HDI, Gender Development Index, and GDP per capita (PPP, 2021$).
Use the tabs below to explore where human development is highest, how much is lost to inequality, how gender gaps affect progress, and how HDI relates to income levels in Africa.
