GDP, jobs, poverty and resource use across African economies – linking macroeconomic trends to human wellbeing.
Economic growth is a necessary – but not sufficient – condition for sustainable development. This dashboard tracks how GDP growth translates into jobs, reduced poverty, and better lives for people across Africa.
We combine data on GDP (PPP, constant 2021 international $), unemployment, extreme poverty, happiness/life satisfaction, resource use (domestic material consumption per capita), and PPP conversion factors. This helps identify where growth is inclusive – and where it is not.
Sources include: World Bank, Our World in Data and related global economic statistics, filtered for African countries only.
Explore how GDP relates to poverty, unemployment, happiness and resource intensity in the African context.
